Darkened by the Smoke of Candles is an exhibition that explores the mysterious and personal iconography of the human form and the important role of instinct in its depiction.
The show focuses on works of powerful immediacy, works that exist in a place where materials and improvisation rule. It courts a loss of control, a loss of habit, where the human subconscious thrives and something greater takes over. There is no full narrative here, just a moment where anything can exist.
It is a show that is rooted as much in classical painting, allegory and myth as in graffiti and scenes found in nightclubs and cinema; figures pose, dance, swim and fall in pairs or in groups and sometimes alone.
In this place of adventure and awareness, we are unmasked and open, free to explore through the dexterous suggestion of the subject and their character.
