I love that a flashed bum can be either a fuck you or a come hither. This painting is part of an ongoing series that I started and exhibited in my last show ‘Night Shades’ at 12.26 Gallery in Dallas. The model has been one specific friend, “K”, along with the fur coats she inherited from her mother-in-law. As a painter I’m interested in the the gesture, and the texture of the fur and skin. These paintings are pure pleasure to make. I think every collector who has purchased them has been a woman identifying with the performativity and cheek. The title comes from Gertrude Stein’s book, Tender Buttons.
