I wanted to include one painting with Gaia’s face, since the photoshoot with her, in the home she grew up in, was the starting point for a lot of the work in the show. She was reading about her great-great grandfather Henri Matisse, and was telling me about how she had never modelled for a painting, and she is the only person in her family who cannot paint.
